Personal Development through meditation?

25 January 2008:

It seems the buzz word at the moment amongst personal development gurus, and especially the Law of Attraction enthusiasts, is meditation. A few years ago I used to associate meditation with spirituality. Nowadays, it appears to be an essential tool for personal growth. It seems everyone is doing it. Is it time for me to jump on the bandwagon?

Personally I’ve always seen appeal in trying to meditate and have tried on several occasions, but alas, I have to admit – despite starting a site on personal development I’ve never actually managed! For the life of me I just do not seem able to keep my mind from wandering off. In fact, I have a much higher chance of falling asleep!

That said, it is definitely time for me to come to a definitive (and personal) conclusion on the use of meditation and exactly how effective it could be to speed up personal development. Maybe I’m hoping for some sort of magic here, but what I’d like to find is that through meditation we manage to get a direct link to our subconscious minds, and thereby having more influence on those parts of our characters that are so difficult to change… Perhaps it’s somewhat similar to self-hypnosis? Time to experiment!
